Blade Runner

Blade Runner may not be post-apocalyptic, but I would say it is related to the genre in a similar way to Escape From New York. It is set in good old 2019 after all. Ain't it Cool News is reporting that new shots have been filmed for an upcoming special edition DVD. Check it out. If you haven't seen the film then you really are missing out. One of my favorites!

Site Updates

A couple of updates for you today. Most importantly we now have a page dedicated to Australian cover scans, so check it out:

http://www.post-apocalypse.co.uk/australia.html

Thanks to Purvis from the message board for providing the great pictures.

I'm busy working on a review of Stryker which is taking longer than expected (as usual), although I have updated the Fact Sheet. I have UK, US and German VHS covers for this, so if anyone has a different cover I want to know! Also, does anybody know of a version in existence re-titled Savage Dawn?

Get Your Own Bunker

There is no use worrying about what to do in the post-apocalypse if you are wiped of the face of the planet by the initial disaster. So why not get yourself a fallout shelter?

Recon 2022: The Mezzo Incident

I have it on good authority that the first Recon 2020 movie is a good fun other worlds post-apocalyptic film. Now right out of the blue comes a sequel from the guys at Movie Seals Productions in Canada.

The film is premiering at SCI-FI-London on the 5Th of may so if you can, check it out.

The first films site:

The Mezzo Incident site:

I will be at the festival (Things to Come re-release premiere) and will see If I can check this one out too.

Any comments?

Another 28 Weeks Later review

This is the last review I will probably post for 28 Weeks Later. All so far have been mostly positive.

"once the film gets in to gear after a slow set up, and Don is infected 28 Weeks Later sends you on a roller coaster ride concluding in a suitably apocalyptic way, which those who disliked the happy ending of the first film will find more satisfying. If you didn't like the first film there'll be little to draw you back in as the film does cover a lot of the same ground as the original, but for fans, this film will be a pleasant surprise, its by no means perfect but in the end its a far better film than you would have expected with a greater scope than the original, and a assured grip on the tension, that rarely lets up till the end, leaving you physically exhausted by the time you leave the theatre....."

Statham for Death Race?

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that Jason Statham (Snatch, Crank) is in talks to play the title role in the Death Race 2000 remake, previously played by good old David Carradine (Dune Warriors, Karate Cop, Warlords).

I quite like Statham but I find his tough guy act a little fake and his nice guy act non-existent. He is British though...

The Road adapted for screen

SCi FI Wire is reporting that an adaption of The Road by Cormac McCarthy is under way. I know a few people who highly praise the book so this could be good.

Video Covers Website

Here is a link I think a few of you might enjoy - A VISUAL HISTORY OF VIDEO COMPANIES IN THE 80'S!

I have already spent a while looking through endless covers and found a couple of alternative versions of some PA's. Lots of stuff to see, some worth saving for the site and a couple of unknowns. One example is The Final Sanction. It looks like a film I might have to keep an eye out for. Read about it on IMDb. Robert Z'Dar!

Road Lawyers????? What the....

Post any interesting finds on the Message Board. Have a look! I will post any other finds there.

New PA film with Bruce Campbell!

That's right, Filmstalker is reporting that a new post-apocalyptic called Vacation has been given the green light.

"Bryce, an aging banker who still fancies himself as a surfer and ends up trapped with his lap dancer girlfriend in a shabby Middle Eastern beach resort after an apocalyptic solar storm destroys the West, forcing the luckless Americans to come to terms with a medieval year-zero environment and a hostile culture that holds them responsible for the world's pain."

Sounds interesting. The budget is supposedly $1million, 3/4 of which has already been raised and Bruce Cambell is "in love" with the script. We will be following this one closely.

Iraq to the Max

Who said it would never happen? Civilian security contractors (some British apparently) in Iraq are cruising around in these baby's. Maybe they could earn some extra money on the side making a PA?

Check out the link as there are others on the guys flickr:

Possibly the first....

review of 28 Weeks Later.

Lots of spoilers but well worth a look. If you don't want to know, I can at least tell you that the review is very positive.

Budweiser Apocalypse

I found this a while ago but was holding out on finding the finished advert. Unfortunately I have had no luck, so here is what I have.

Budweiser filmed a post-apocalyptic advert for Super Bowl XLI (that's the American Football game where they have multiple breaks in the game just for adverts). Below is some behind the scenes footage and then a short part of the ad, both of which were placed on YouTube by the ad company. The ad has a nice big budget PA feel in the vein of Mad Max2. I looked through all the Super Bowl XLI on youtube but no luck finding a full article (I can't believe people put adverts on YouTube). Can anybody find the full thing? Did anyone see it?

Cover Scans

We have a new page up today dedicated to Turkish cover scans and the PA scene in Turkey. Check it out and enjoy the hi-res scans. There should be an update soon with lots more scans and maybe some more information.

http://www.post-apocalypse.co.uk/turkish.html

Do you have a PA collection with scans we don't have? Specifically we are looking for stuff outside of the US and UK. Even if its just a couple of videos we are interested. If you want to write anything about your country and the PA's released there then even better.

More Fallout

gamesindustry.biz reports:

"Bethesda Softworks has purchased the rights to the Fallout series of videogames from Interplay for $5.75 million, according to an SEC filing."

I don't know what an SEC Filing is but I do know that this means more Fallout is almost guaranteed.

PA Props

A seller over on eBay UK is offering Tank Girl's leather gloves.

Check it out

£130 after postage. A nice prop, but remember that Lori Petty wears 18 different outfits throughout the film, so not so much screen time.

Do any of you folks own PA props?

Tomorrow

I should have the Turkish page up tomorrow. As there isn't much news today here are a couple of the scans to peak you interest. Hi-res versions will be avaliable too. If you like alternative box covers then you are gonna love this. If not, well, sorry.

Birds remake?

Finally Easter is over and we can get back to things. The next review is going to be Tank Girl if I can work out what to write about this mental film.

News:
Michael Bay's production company is reportedly in 'active development' of a remake of Hitchcock's The Birds. It is as yet unknown if it will be a remake or a sequel, set in a rabid bird infested world.

Steel Dawn

The Steel Dawn review is finally finished. Sorry for the delay folks. I hope you enjoy it. I'm off for the next couple of days (it's Easter) so no news for at least 48 hours. I'm not sure what the next review should be; so many good titles are screaming out to be watched!

www.post-apocalypse.co.uk/steeldawn.html

I'm still looking for readers reviews if anybody is interested. A page of Turkish box art scans is scheduled to appear some time next week too.

Finally, check out this apocalyptic fashion parade (Thanks to Troc on the message board)

Update

Things have been a little bit quiet over the past couple of days, so here is a video to keep you going, but first, a little update. The review of Steel Dawn will be up on Saturday (unfortunately I'm very busy tomorrow). I have already completed a big chunk of this one and it's looking good, even if I do say so myself! I have updated the factsheet already so check it out.

On a totally different note, I may be receiving a load of Turkish PA box cover scans soon, so watch this space! Should be interesting...

Now, it's a bit unusual but I am sure you will enjoy:

The Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell

The Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell is an unusual looking film; a post-apocalyptic comedy horror adventure. It did the rounds at film festivals last year and early this year. Hopefully it will be out on DVD some time soon (I will of course keep you updated). The feature below includes interviews with the Director, Producer, Stars and general public and some footage from the film, so is well worth checking out.

Also check out the trailer and more information at the official site:

Zordax European Premiere

The director of Zordax II has just contacted me with a little bit of information. He will be flying over to France for the European premiere:

http://www.festivalmauvaisgenre.com/

I am unsure if we have any French readers, but If you live near the festival why not check it out (and send us some feedback)! Zordax II is a short film in the tradition of The New Barbarians and Endgame.

More information on Zordax II here:

Trilogy of trailers

post-apocalyptic movie have been around for a long time, but the cream only rose with the advent of Mad Mad, or more precisely Mad Max 2. The films success spurned a multitude of knock-offs for which this site exists. The sub-genre would not exist if it wasn't for Max 2, so we owe a lot to the Max trilogy. Lets hope that if Max 4 does happen, it's more like 2 than 3.

If for some reason you haven't managed to see them, or it's been a long time, then here are trailers for all three films to whet your appetite/jog your memory.
