Update

Just a couple of things to mention - I forgot to post here about last weeks new review - If you only read this blog page you may have missed Nate's eccentric look at Robot Holocaust, so check it out soon as there will be a new review in a couple of days (and I can tell you it's a real 'return to form' and a film we should all know well).

In other news today I have added seven more covers to the Finland page. Thanks to Dremez for the scans! Finally, check out the poster on the right (click to expand) and don't forget to note down in your diary the date! See below for more info.

PA Movie Night 2

After the success of our very first 'Post-apocalyptic Sunday' we are now warming up for round 2. Dune Warriors was a great start and on 13th January we will be following it up with another Santiago classic - Equalizer 2000. At 10pm GMT we will simultaniously watch the film and discuss events. I am yet to watch Eqalizer 2000, but with the promise of Richard Norton kicking ass in a series or rock quarries I am more than excited (oh yes)! Treat yourself to a couple of beers and come join us!

Check out the message board for more information and a link to get the film!

First Death Race pic.

Here we have the first picture from Death Race. Click to enlarge! Let's hope Paul W. S. Anderson can make something half decent for a change. Here's the official synopsis:

"A penitentiary full of felons has inspired the jailers to create a grisly pastime ripe for lucrative kickbacks. Now, adrenalized inmates, a global audience hungry for televised violence and a spectacular arena come together to form the Death Race.

Three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames (Statham) is an expert at survival in the harsh landscape that has become our country. Just as he thinks he has turned his life around, the ex-con is framed for a gruesome murder he didn’t commit. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein—a crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill—Ames is given an easy choice by Terminal Island’s warden (Joan Allen): suit up or rot away in a cell.

His face hidden by a metallic mask, one convict will be put through an insane three-day challenge. Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals in the country’s toughest prison to claim the prize of freedom. Driving a monster car outfitted with machine guns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers, one desperate man will destroy anything in his path to win the most twisted spectator sport on Earth.

Death Race hits theaters on September 26th, 2008."

I am Legend out in the US

I am Legend is out now in the US and the UK release has been moved up to the 26th December. Early indications in the US are that the film is doing very, very well, beating the majority of this seasons big releases. The apocalypse is still cool! Could this signal more post-apocalyptic films from Hollywood?

Christmas Party

Last night was the annual post-apocalypse.co.uk Christmas party. I would have loved to have invited you all, but Mel said no riff-raff, and who am I to disagree with Mad Max himself? Funny thing is, I caught him late on leaveing with Tina Turner. Whatever he wants to do with Tina is his business, but I was forced to confiscate his car keys. Does this man never learn? I'm sure I could hear Stallone chanting something about "100 points a kill" but that could have been the champagne talking.

Stallone was actually a good laugh, but by the end of the night everybody was pretty fed up with his "I am the law" jokes. Get some new material dude! Meanwhile I tried my best to persuade Will Smith that his new film is called I am Legend, but he was having none of it. "That makes no sense" he kept saying. Sheesh, I didn't write the darn thing.

Overall it was a great night. The only thing that didn't go down well was my speech about world domination. The creation of a jugger league, worldwide thunderdomes and monthly death races were unanimously backed, and the turning of New York into a giant prison was popular with all, but the only one who was impressed with the whole emperor of earth thing was Bush. Unfortunately nobody took any notice of him all night so I was on my own with that one.

Mel refused to remove his gloves.

That's not my normal smile - honest!

Maybe next year they will take note...
