Things have been quiet here for a while now - mostly my fault for being too busy at work. Nevertheless things move on. 28 Months Later has just been green lit, Mad Max 4 looks like it might be an animated film and The Road should be out soon. Cirio’s last movie Road Warriors should be out this year but news on this is thin at the moment.

Sad news for all PA fans. Legendary PA director Cirio H. Santiago has passed away. All the details can be found here:

Without doubt Cirio Directed more trashy desert and quarry based PA's than anybody else. Films like Dune Warriors, Raiders of the Sun, Equalizer 2000, Wheels of Fire and the awesome Stryker are the pinnacle of the low-budget PA genre in my opinion. Without Cirio this site would not be here.

Before he died Cirio was working on one last film, and it looks set to be another post-apocalyptic smash. Look out for Road Warriors when it is released soon. It's sure to be the last of its kind.

Waterworld Extended Cut

2012 (2009)

This is a new PA type film set to release in 2009. It will be directed by Roland Emmerich. It is going to have a few big name stars also. This idea of the year 2012 has had a lot of research and there are some theories out there that state this may be the year the world ends. The story blends the idea of the Mayan calendar, which predicts the world ending in 2012, with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers plaguing the planet and a large cast of characters dealing with the mayhem.

In possibly the happiest news of the year it's confirmed that post-apocalyptic maestro Cirio H. Santiago is working on a new PA film! Stryker, Wheels of Fire, Equalizer 2000 and Dune Warriors are stone cold PA classics that this website is all about, so we can't wait to see a good old action led PA. Warner Bros have released a few more details about the Terminator 4 plot. This film gets more and more post-apocalyptic every day!

"In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind. The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star."

The Andromeda Strain (2008) mini series

This is a new remake set to air on A/E here in the U.S. This was directed by Ridley Scott of Aliens fame and from the trailer it looks apocalyptic. If you don't know the story, here is a very brief synopsis... A satellite from space crashes in a desert city. A couple of kids find the satellite and open it. They unknowingly release a deadly space virus which they carry with them back to town. From there it is a race against time to stop the alien virus from killing everyone in the world.

A Red Dwan redux?

If there was ever any doubt that mindless radioactive zombies have taken over Hollywood then the fact rumors coming out of Cannes about a re-make of Red Dawn being considered should be proof enough it's time to climb into our fallout shelters and lock the hatch. (Blurb here.)

For those who've forgotten the plot of Red Dawn it was about a rag-tag group of high school kids who escape into the mountains at the outset of World War III just after a joint Russian-Cuban invasion of the United States. From there this group of athletic youths- joined by two young females who survived vile gang rape- lead a guerrilla war against the murderous, raping, communist invaders.

In other words it was your basic feel-good "good guys kick the bad guys arses" action film. It wasn't green, it wasn't politically correct, it didn't have any CGI, and it was full of rugged characters possessed of that rarest of commodities in films today; common sense. This movie had people pissing into a car radiator because they didn't have water. Now that's realism!

The problem is the world has changed. Political correctness has smothered common sense in its crib and we've seen corporations use strong-arm tactics to take money from old men and young kids for downloading music. Music that you can hear freely on the radio, but apparently not on your computer. Worse, the global climate has changed. For starters Cuba and Russia poses less of a threat to American sovereignty than our own government does. The world is (apparently) no longer threatened by global cooling or a fast depleting ozone layer, now it's global warming and Al Gore documentaries. Worse America, some pundits would shout, has been grossly mismanaged by a government whose ruinous foreign and domestic policies have all but ceded the country to foreign invaders- oops- I mean "illegal immigrants". Illegal immigrants, that's the proper PC thing to say, which brings us back to Red Dawn .

It's not politically correct to actually say anything bad about anyone, much less specific groups or countries, which means this movie will be weak and anemic. The original story would have to be modified. Alas Hollywood doesn't have the gonads to produce a story that tackles the real issues threatening American sovereignty, much less explore countries that offer a true real and present danger. Then again what constitutes a real and present danger seems to depend on what your politics are. And therein is a large part of the problem.

Obviously the original story will never make it in the current environment of dumbed down politically correct all-flash-and-no-substance movie making. Besides which there's no "green" message in the original movie and no terrorists. So what sort of a re-envisioned mutant abortion is Hollywood's remake machine likely to fart out of it's weeping puss-sore of a sphincter?

I shudder to think. I shudder to think!

After a quiet 5th PA Sunday we are pushing to get as many people as possible for our 6th event. 2020 Texas Gladiators is a fantastic 80's PA and should be highly enjoyable. At 10pm GMT on June the 8th I hope you will join us all for the film and chat event. That's plenty of time to get hold of a copy of the film.

I must apologise for the lack of updates recently, I have been rather busy. To compensate for that I have two treats for you. Firstly is my very own short post-apocalyptic film made this weekend as part of a competition. It was scripted, filmed and edited within 48 hours.

Mad Max 4 and a Video Game!

Apparently George Miller is now working on computer games and a Mad Max game in preparation for the fourth film! This is great news as it confirms that the film is still a real possibility. Check out this quote from George in Newsweek:

"Well, the first one will be a "Mad Max" game. Because what happened was, we were all ready to go, within eleven weeks of shooting the next "Mad Max" movie, "Fury Road." This was way back when the war in Iraq started, and that really threw this out for a whole host of reasons, not the least of which was that the American dollar crashed against the Australian dollar. And apart from that, just insurances, getting vehicles and stuff there on container ships--all that slowed down around the world. So we had to move on to "Happy Feet," because that was going to take a long time."

There is plenty of interesting info in the interview, including this bombshell:

"Had Mel Gibson signed to play the lead again?

He all but signed to play the lead, yeah, yeah. But I think that day is long gone now--it's five years later."

Doomsday UK release

Finally Universal have confirmed the release date for Doomsday in the UK as May 9th. Despite being a British film it won't be out here until nearly two months after the US release. Hopefully we can survive the gruelling wait...
